Confession: It’s summer. It’s Saturday. I’m going in to school. I know, that is the nerdiest confession yet. Here’s how I explained it to my friend Katie: It’s like I’m riding a wave of enthusiasm for school, and I never know what it is going to suddenly run out. That’s how I work, I become obsessive with something for a period of time, but I can’t control when it starts or stops! The worst is when my enthusiasm for school runs out like on a Wednesday in February, what’s a teacher to do?!
So what, you may ask, could I possible need/want to do that sends me to school on a sweltering summer Saturday? I’m moving in to my new classroom of course! Remember when I told you what a disaster my room is? Well here are the photos I promised:
View from the door
Classroom library--if you can imagine this is a HUGE improvement from what it looked like yesterday!

View from corner. Classrooms look so big when all the desks are lined up and stacked. It will look a lot smaller with a classroom full of 10 year olds.
You just wait until I post the pictures of the END of my work day…I will shock and amaze you
But I won’t just be organizing and unpacking. No, I will be doing one of my favorite nerdiest things on earth…organizing my books! I love books. Like passionately. Is that different than loving reading? I think so. Don’t get me wrong I love to read, but there is a special place in my heart for books themselves. In fact, I have a very strict book budget for my classroom library because I have been known to spend absurd amounts of money on Scholastic book orders (I *heart* Scholastic book orders!!) or at Half Price Books (The clearance book section is my favorite, you can find fantastic books for $1). Anyway, here is another sort of “Between Before and After” picture of my book sets I was working on after summer school on Friday:
These are my class sets of books for Novel Units. They are organized by reading level.
Each basket has a label with the book title, author's name, number of books and reading level
Goal of Super Saturday Summer School work day? Finish unpacking and organizing books. Anything else I get done is just frosting.
